After an unsuccessful job search upon completion of his graduate program in 2009, an unemployed Ernest Greene did the next best thing. He moved back in with his parents and started producing music out of his bedroom under the name Washed Out. Thanks to social media and the influential blogosphere, his music gained momentum and in 2011, he was signed to SubPop records.
The now established Atlanta-based band released their second album, Paracosm, this past summer to favorable reviews from critics. Savvy listeners will also recognize their sound — catalogued under the chillwave movement — from the opening sequence of the hit series Portlandia. Listen to “It All Feels Right” off the new album and check out their upcoming West Coast tour dates below.

Paracosm was an album I enjoyed in 2013, but I think it’ll get a lot more play from me in 2014. I don’t know why, I just have that feeling. There were a lot of albums I’d purchased around the same time as Paracosm and it sort of got sidelined. I think I’ll revisit it in a couple months(or when it’s warmer) and it will get the attention it so deserves from me. I love Ben H. Allen’s production on this record. He worked on the Youth Lagoon album as well. That album was one of my favorites from last year. So much to hear and get lost in.
Indeed!! Paracosm is one of those album that deserves slow digestion. Is fully charged with amazing sounds that are hard and sneaky to catch.
I didn’t realize Ben Allen was associated with Youth Lagoon. Brilliant!
