Devendra Banhart – Mi Negrita (Daniele Di Martino Edit)

32155_devendra-banhart-32

The divine Devendra Banhart is a Venezualan-American folk singer whose fourth album, Mala released in March. His enticing blend of Latin American romantic folk is infused with “flamenco-tinged guitars, ranchera-influenced group vocals, strutting mariachi percussion and quietly-enunciated, reverb-coated Spanish vocals,” as described by All Things Go.

It doesn’t get much better than that – but when you add a beach house backing by the skilled London-based producer Daniele di Martino, the result is an exquisite rework that’s perfect for a Friday afternoon (or rooftop rendezvous).

Make sure to pick up a free download below and check out the tour dates. He’ll be playing at DC’s Sixth & I Historic Synagogue June 8th.

CHVRCHES – Gun

CHVRCHES-Gun-

One listen to CHVRCHES shimmery new single and you’ll understand why the electropop number is currently seated at the apex of the indie stratosphere. Although I prefer their previous release, the Scottish trio is an undeniable pop force. Officially out July 25th in the UK, “Gun” is sure to be featured on their highly anticipated debut LP – set to release sometime in September.

Also check out their punchy pop remix of MS MR‘s “Hurricane.” See a list of the group’s upcoming tour dates below — including a sold out show at DC’s Black Cat! June is going to be a good month : )

Beat Connection – Saola (Odesza Remix)

Saola-Art-Drop-odesza-1024x10241

Beat Connection is quite possibly my favorite new electropop group to emerge last year. From Seattle, the tropic-vibes trio released their debut LP The Palace Garden August of 2012. They kicked off a brief West coast tour last week with fellow Washington based duo Odesza, who remixed their track “Saola” in honor of the collaboration.

Grab the track (gratis!) below, and sample some of the other ‘beats’ as well.

I feel too little and think too much.

Upcoming Tour Dates:
5/7 – Sacramento: Jambalaya (w/Odesza)
5/9 – Eugene: WOW Hall (w/Odesza)
5/10 – Vancouver: The Electric Owl (w/Odesza)
5/17 – Seattle: Neumos Crystal Ball

Dillon – Thirteen Thirtyfive (Christian Strobe Remix)

Dillon2

While I won’t try to dissect the lyrics on this one, let’s just enjoy the rad remix that is German producer Christian Strobe’s take on “Thirteen Thirtyfive.” You can catch the original on the Brazilian-born, but Berlin-based singer Dillon‘s debut album, This Silence Kills.

File this under ‘nu disco trap,’ according to Strobe’s Soundcloud page. And grab the free download for your weekend playlist by liking him on facebook.

Foals – My Number (T.E.E.D. Remix)

foals_holy fire

Foals first landed on my radar with the release of their debut album, Antidotes in 2008. The indie group from Oxford have been making steady music ever since (particularly prominent in the UK), dropping their third studio album Holy Fire this month.

Although as a whole the music is a little too post-punk for me, I dig this house remix by the also Oxford-based (and totally amazing) producer Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs (TEED) of their latest single “My Number.” Hot Chip also attempted a makeover over the song, but I much prefer TEED’s version. Check it out below, along with earlier effort of theirs “The French Open.”

Update: Foals will be coming to DC’s 930 Club May 5th!

CHVRCHES – Recover (Cid Rim Remix)

2204-chvrches-1

CHVRCHES or ‘churches’ (in case you didn’t do the trendy indie moniker math) is a new electropop outfit out of Glasgow. From their Recover EP released this month, Austrian producer Cid Rim (aka Clemens Bacher) takes the peppy single and transforms it into something a little more interesting, of the indie noir variety.

The trio toured with Passion Pit last year, are hitting up SXSW (natch) and are slotted to play at the Firefly festival in Dover this June (amazing lineup btw). They’re also playing a couple of sets at Mercury Lounge in NY next month so if you live there and have the ability to score tickets to the sold out shows, do so.

And if I recover, will you be my comfort?
or it can be over, and we can just leave it here.

Artist Spotlight: Amtrac

amtrac3

Caleb Cornett, also known as Amtrac is a DJ/producer from Kentucky who has been gaining momentum as of late and for good reason. His remix of French producer Milwaukee’s (oxymoron much?) single “Alone” is a gorgeous electro/nu-disco number that improves upon the original.

More recently he also reworked the Alex Metric track “Rave Number.” Stream and download this dance floor-ready tune below.

Electric Guest – The Bait

Electric-Guest_The-Bait_Screenshot-640x360

When the official new video for Electric Guest’s “The Bait” came across my inbox the other day, I was excited to give it a viewing (not always the case). Having seen the LA band live a few months back — I was aware of the group’s dynamic performance energy (frontman Asa Taccone can seriously dance!) — so I had a feeling it would be good.

The vid did not disappoint, as it is something of a cross between a Newsies number and scene from the musical Oliver. Off their 2012 debut album, Mondo, don’t be surprised if you find yourself snapping and tapping along to this one.

And if you can’t get enough, here’s a rad remix by French producers Michael Creange and WEKEED.
