Wild Belle — whose live show was one of the surprise standout performances I saw last year — is coming back to DC this Tuesday to play at U Street Music Hall. If you’re not already familiar with the Chicagoan brother-sister duo, I suggest you get acquainted as their brassy blues and reggae-inflected songs are not to be overlooked.
In “Another Girl,” vocalist Natalie Bergman croons about being “another experimentation.” Stream the torch-like track below and check out the official western-inspired video released last month if you’re so inclined. Lastly, DO catch the charismatic duo live if given the chance.
Now that I’m back from abroad, I’m amped to finally be sharing my list of stand-out indie tracks from the last year!
In no particular order, below are my top 50 artists and/or tracks of 2012. Since I started blogging midway through the year, some of these artists have been honored with a post prior and some have not. Thus for the sake of diversifying, in some cases the featured track below is not necessarily my favorite but a varying version of the original or new track entirely (but equally adored, obv).
Brother and sister duo, Wild Belle released their funky new single “It’s Too Late” late last month. My favorite track though is the reggae-infused number, “Keep You” which came out earlier this year. Incidentally, I discovered while writing this that they’re going to be opening for Tennis at Rock and Roll Hotel next Monday, so color me excited.
Same song, again and again You rob me twice and I keep coming back Why can’t I keep you?
