Well another year has drawn to a close, which means it’s time for all the ‘best of’ lists in music to emerge. Most of the heavyhitters (Pitchfork, NPR, etc.) have already weighed in at this point, and now it’s time for CokeCanPoetry to toss in our humble, synth-doting hat as well. This year we’ve pared down our list to a selective top 20, which have been conveniently collated in a Spotify playlist below. Yes, we aim to please. Of course, you can click on the artists links for individual past entries as well.
It should be noted that these picks are representative of great records in general, and that selecting the best track is subjective and even arbitrary in some cases. That is just to say that we suffer from an “utter conflict of love and duty” in assembling these best-of lists, as Inverted Audio so aptly put it. In any event, enjoy these tunes anew — plus our top five remixes of the past year below. Thanks for listening and following along with CCP in 2015!
After much deliberation, Poetry is ready to present our picks for 2014, neatly compiled in no particular order below into a trim Top 40 Tracks. Considering the myriad of factors to consider when distilling a ‘best of’ list — not to mention sheer volume of quality music produced over the past year — this was no easy feat. Thus, we’ve included a handful of Honorable Mentions as well. While most of these tracks have been posted previously, there are a few that prior to now went unrecognized (our apologies to Owen Pallett, for example).
As an aside, it’s been a good year for Poetry In An Empty Coke Can and we’re excited for an even more expansive 2015 — so thank you for listening — and break out the champ as you relive some of the merrier (and not so merry) moments of 2014.
It’s that time of year again — the time in which the year’s best ear candy is served up in one delicious location for your listening pleasure. Unlike last year, however, I’ve streamlined my ‘best of’ index into a selective top ten list — so you KNOW they’re the cream of the crop.
Cheers to CHVRCHES, Disclosure and Arctic Monkeys amongst others for bringing us their indie A-game in 2013. So basically, well done to the UK; thanks for the aural alchemy. All of these artists made an impact on the music scene this past year in a major way — so if you see some cross-collaboration, well, there’s a reason. Without further ado, I present my top picks for 2013:
Now that I’m back from abroad, I’m amped to finally be sharing my list of stand-out indie tracks from the last year!
In no particular order, below are my top 50 artists and/or tracks of 2012. Since I started blogging midway through the year, some of these artists have been honored with a post prior and some have not. Thus for the sake of diversifying, in some cases the featured track below is not necessarily my favorite but a varying version of the original or new track entirely (but equally adored, obv).
