Black and white. Cityscapes. Pulsing synthpop with romantic underpinnings. Pretty much the trappings of an irresistible video/song marriage for me. The frenetic energy of “Miko” perfectly captures the beat of the city – making it the ideal soundtrack for any on-the-go activity. Download the new track by The Chain Gang of 1974 (moniker of Kamtin Mohager) in iTunes and look out for his sophomore LP scheduled to drop in 2014.
MS MR – Think of You
MS MR has premiered a dreamy new video for their song “Think of You,” from their debut LP Secondhand Rapture — perfectly described by Pitchfork as “deep, thunderous rumblings, celestial twinkling, foggy shrouds, and the sweet clarity of a pastel dawn.”
Directed by BRTHR, the vid takes the 80’s like power-pop ballad and matches the genre in a modern tribute to the old public access television show “TV Party.” The directing duo wanted to create a quirky, lo-fi universe that’s sort of strange, but loveable at the same time. And indeed there’s a lot to love about this video, from the 80’s stylistic flair, to the psychedelic elements and modernistic twists.
Lizzy Plapinger, the vocalist of MS MR calls to mind Florence Welch both visually and in her affective delivery of the song’s pathos — essentially “what it feels like to realize the person you once loved was a toxic bomb of negativity” (h/t to Winnie Cooper).
I still think of you and all the sh*t you put me through
And I know you were wrong.

CHVRCHES – Gun
One listen to CHVRCHES shimmery new single and you’ll understand why the electropop number is currently seated at the apex of the indie stratosphere. Although I prefer their previous release, the Scottish trio is an undeniable pop force. Officially out July 25th in the UK, “Gun” is sure to be featured on their highly anticipated debut LP – set to release sometime in September.
Also check out their punchy pop remix of MS MR‘s “Hurricane.” See a list of the group’s upcoming tour dates below — including a sold out show at DC’s Black Cat! June is going to be a good month : )

Swiss Lips VS Avec Sans
Avec Sans is a new electropop duo out of London, consisting of Alice Fox and Jack St. James. Their take on Swiss Lips “U Got the Power” officially releases April 29th – but get ahead of the game and pick up a free download for your weekend below.
AlunaGeorge – Attracting Flies
AlunaGeorge has done it again with their single “Attracting Flies” – a preview off their forthcoming album Body Music, set to release July 1 in the UK. The duo’s ultra fresh sound is in part due to the vocals of Aluna Francis, who “manages to sound sweet as pie while dishing out the razor-sharp spice.”
Miike Snow – Happy to You
Swedish electro group Miike Snow released their second full-length album Happy To You last March, and it is no short of amazing (featured on my 2012 ‘best of’ list). I had the privilege of seeing them at 930 club in DC last October and they did not disappoint (this post has been a long time coming).
Experience a bit of the magic with a clip from “Bavarian #1 (Say You Will)” below. “Devil’s Work” immediately following is another of my favorite tracks off the stellar sophomore album.
CHVRCHES – Recover (Cid Rim Remix)

CHVRCHES or ‘churches’ (in case you didn’t do the trendy indie moniker math) is a new electropop outfit out of Glasgow. From their Recover EP released this month, Austrian producer Cid Rim (aka Clemens Bacher) takes the peppy single and transforms it into something a little more interesting, of the indie noir variety.
The trio toured with Passion Pit last year, are hitting up SXSW (natch) and are slotted to play at the Firefly festival in Dover this June (amazing lineup btw). They’re also playing a couple of sets at Mercury Lounge in NY next month so if you live there and have the ability to score tickets to the sold out shows, do so.
And if I recover, will you be my comfort?
or it can be over, and we can just leave it here.
Urban Cone – We Should Go To France
J’adore this infectious electro-pop number from new Swedish indie group Urban Cone out of Stockholm. From their album Our Youth released October 2012, “We should go to France” is a movement I could rally behind.
Bumblebeez – Next To You
Perusing the music blogs this weekend, stumbled upon this retro pop ditty over at EMPT. Don’t know much about the Australian outfit Bumblebeez, but they are sure to catch lots of buzz as the featured track of the latest Lacoste ad with their song “Next To You.”
The actual video is a montage of romantic scenes from classic films like the one above (which, I’m a sucker for as we’ve established). Listen and languish in the sweet vibes of this irresistible tune below.
I don’t know what it is you’ve done to me,
but it feels so fresh just like a summer breeze.
Now I just know I want you close to me.
I just want to be next to you
I just want to be good to you.
I just want to be.
MS MR – Hurricane
The enigmatic, New York-based duo MS MR released their debut EP, Candy Bar Creep Show this September via tumblr. Check out these dark pop gems “Hurricane” and “Ash Tree Lane” below; and for those who live in the DC area, note that they will be opening up for GROUPLOVE at 9:30 Club December 18.
