Really, really excited to share the new Jessie Ware collab in this week’s edition of Remix Roundup. TOKiMONSTA, the LA producer caught up with Ware in Copenhagen as part of the Red Bull Studios Remix Project to rework the song “Keep On Lying,” off her new album Tough Love. The original is one of many gorgeous gems on the UK singer’s new record, but TOKi manages to elevate the track — infusing effervescent synths, cymbals and future bass into its melancholic core while leaving Jessie’s divine vocals at the forefront, pitch-shifting them at points for a richer, darker sound. Bottom line — if this remix isn’t love, then we don’t want to know.
Speaking of another artist who collaborated with Ware on her new album (on the song “Pieces”), electronic artist Tourist aka William Phillips has dropped a dazzling new track entitled “Illuminate.” Featuring our favorite British frontman, Olly Alexander of Years & Years on vocals, the London producer employs his poppier sensibilities on the song, using vibrant stuttering synths to illuminate the uptempo production and Olly’s achingly good pipes. The track was released November 16 on Polydor Records.
Lastly, Little Dragon brings up the rear with the Poolside rendition of the Swedish group’s track, “Cat Rider.” The LA-based duo and daytime disco-makers drip some of their dreamy poolside vibes onto the original, taking up the tempo on the track from Little Dragon’s latest effort, Nabuma Rubberband. The result is an exotic and inspired study in euphoric electronic lounge music. Listen below.
This week’s Remix Roundup starts off with the sumptuous new rework of Jessie Ware‘s new single, “Say You Love Me,” courtesy of Alex Adair. The young UK producer won us over with his debut track, “Make Me Feel Better,” and now he’s managed to trump himself with this rousing Ware reinterpretation that is dare we say it — better than the original. Stream below and you’ll understand.
Next is the upbeat, shimmering new mix of “ILYSB” that dropped last month from the nascent LA outfit LANY. Germany’s Ferdinand Weber gives the pop track a tropical house makeover, rendering it dance floor-ready.
And last but not least we have SF producer Nick Monaco‘s recent retouch of Rhye‘s “3 Days.” Turning up the tempo ever so slightly, Monaco stays true to the soulful original while suffusing it with some synth-coated minerals. Pick up a free download on SoundCloud and look out for Monaco’s debut LP, Mating Call to drop September 9 via Soul Clap Records.
This week’s Remix Roundup begins with a refreshing rework of Golden Coast‘s “Break My Fall” from Rainer + Grimm. The Toronto-based producers take the original sunny tune from LA duo Golden Coast and sprinkle some magical tropical-infused house vibes, rendering this feel-good track rooftop ready. Stream below and snag a free download on SoundCloud.
Next we have the new one from Jessie Ware, “Tough Love” reworked by none other than Cyril Hahn. The Swiss producer known for his sexy, soulful imaginative reproductions transforms the already stunning song into a euphoric, danceable derivative. In other words, match made in heaven.
Lastly, let’s slow things down a bit with this divine downtempo edit of #1 Dads track “Return To” from Tasmanian DJ/producer Akouo. In a delectable discovery, it turns out #1 Dads is the solo project of Tom Ianske, the frontman of Australian alt-pop band Big Scary. While the original track featuring vocals from Tom Snowdon is a gorgeous piano-driven track, Akouo kicks it up a notch with his blissed-out and beat-filled production. Download gratis on SoundCloud.
London’s own Jessie Ware has just released the first single off her as-of-yet untitled upcoming album, the follow-up to her wildly successful debut LP Devotion.
The new track, “Tough Love” was co-written and produced by BenZel, the production duo comprised of Benny Blanco (Katy Perry, One Republic) and Two Inch Punch. Having collaborated with them in 2012 on the R&B cover “If You Love Me,” BenZel know just how to compliment Ware’s lush and soulful vocals with their echoey percussion and synth-swathed production.
One listen to this stunning and sophisticated track will have you “crying out for more” in anticipation of Ware’s sophomore effort, due out August 4th. Pre-order the single on iTunes and follow future album updates on her Facebook page.
