RMX ROUNDUP: ZHU + Amtrac / Lana Del Ray + Munk / Alex Adair

Time for another Remix Roundup — in which we share some of the best new remixes and electronic offerings currently in circulation on the blogosphere.

Last week’s roundup featured the Odesza remix of the ZHU track “Faded,” and now we’ve got another stellar one to share from the Kentucky DJ/producer Amtrac. His nu-disco rendition is a high energy and uplifting take on the original that will ramp up your weekend in no time. Next is a new remix of Lana Del Ray’s “West Coast” from German producer and Gomma label maestro Mathias Modica, aka Munk. While we’re not big fans of the original tbh, the sexy percussion and added bossa nova flavor make this deep house derivative something worth getting excited about.

Lastly, we have a new electronic track by the up-and-coming UK producer Alex Adair. The single, “Make Me Feel Better” will do just that with its uplifting house vibes and sun-swathed synths. Sampling from Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell’s “Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing,” Adair has a knack for combining unexpected sounds in a way that is imaginative and invigorating. Press play on all three tracks below.

alt-J – Hunger Of The Pine // Left Hand Free

alt-J

Cult indie trio alt-J will release their second full-length album, This Is All Yours, September 22 via Canvasback. The English band’s first single, “Hunger Of The Pine,” retains their trademark atmospheric sound, but adds the unexpected with a sample from Miley Cyrus’ song “4×4” that works surprisingly well. Discussing the song’s creation in an interview with NPR, keyboardist Gus Unger-Hamilton said: “It was written very quickly using some guitar chords and sounds being layered on Ableton, and seemed to signal a bit of a new sound for us. The lyrics mainly suggest the idea that missing someone — pining — can be a physical pain much like hunger.”

Also hot off the press is their second release, “Left Hand Free,” which is a markedly different sound from the former. Safe to say that true to their sobriquet, their sophomore effort will be a fresh new triumph for the group. Stream both songs below as you hunger for the new album.

alt-J will tour the UK and US this fall, making a final stop in the district November 19.

Sleeplessly embracing
Yawn yearns into me
Plenty more tears in the sea

RMX ROUNDUP: London Grammar + The Aston Shuffle / ZHU + Odesza / Racing Glaciers + backstroke.

backstroke

Welcome to another edition of Remix Roundup! Let’s get started with a scintillating new rework of London Grammar‘s “Wasting My Young Years,” by Aussie producers The Aston Shuffle. Having already been remixed several times over, the Sydney duo manage to put a new, up-tempo take on the track with their signature house sound and the addition of steel drums. Next up is the phenom new remix of ZHU‘s hit track, “Faded,” from Seattle production duo Odesza. Somewhat different from their prior releases, Odesza’s darker treatment with the use of distorted guitars and earth-shattering percussion makes for a dizzying and disorienting experience in a deeply satisfying way. Last up is the new remix of Racing Glaciers “First Light” from DC’s own remix artist, backstroke.. Elegantly crafted with an expansive soundscape, shuffling synths and tranquilizing trumpet, backstroke. have made one for the books, already claiming the top spot on HypeM. Stream all three below, and pick up the backstroke. remix gratis on Soundcloud.

BROODS – Mother & Father

BROODS

BROODS is back with another cut, the lead single off their forthcoming album, Evergreen—due out via Capitol Records late summer/early fall. “Mother & Father” is a soaring synthpop ballad, lyrically unsettling and affective as ever. Expect big things from the NZ brother/sister duo as they continue to ride the momentum of their current indie darling status.

Years & Years – Take Shelter

Years___Years_new_20140625_2048x1365_01

I’ve been hot on the trail of Years & Years for some time now, so I was excited to see that the London trio had released a new single since signing with Polydor Records. As evidenced by the new mega-label, these guys have been steadily gaining in popularity (and rightfully so), whose music The Guardian described as “like Disclosure in a good mood! The track, “Take Shelter” packs another powerful pop punch, this time with a reggaeton-like rhythm underlying their polished electronic sound and frontman Olly’s infectious vocals.

The single is part of their upcoming EP, which is scheduled to release August 17. Take shelter in this track by streaming below.

EVVY – Got Me Movin’

A music insider tipped me off to NY newcomer EVVY awhile back, and since then I’ve been eagerly anticipating the public premiere of her new track, “Got Me Movin’.” Produced by Mickey Valen & The King (aka Chris Wallitsch), the new production duo strike all the right chords with this melodic and shimmery synthpop number. Stream below, and look out for EVVY’s debut EP to drop later this summer.

Movement – Like Lust

MOVEMENT

Australia has not stopped producing quality indie bands the last couple of years. Enter Movement, an experimental three-piece based out of Sydney. Like most of their music released thus far, “Like Lust” is a slow tempo track, defying genre by blurring elements of R&B, electronica and psychadelic rock. The trio signed to Modular Recordings (Tame Impala, Cut Copy) and have already supported Solange and Darkside on tour. Listen to “Like Lust” below.

Jessie Ware – Tough Love

Jessie-Ware-Tough-Love

London’s own Jessie Ware has just released the first single off her as-of-yet untitled upcoming album, the follow-up to her wildly successful debut LP Devotion.

The new track, “Tough Love” was co-written and produced by BenZel, the production duo comprised of Benny Blanco (Katy Perry, One Republic) and Two Inch Punch. Having collaborated with them in 2012 on the R&B cover “If You Love Me,” BenZel know just how to compliment Ware’s lush and soulful vocals with their echoey percussion and synth-swathed production.

One listen to this stunning and sophisticated track will have you “crying out for more” in anticipation of Ware’s sophomore effort, due out August 4th. Pre-order the single on iTunes and follow future album updates on her Facebook page.

RMX ROUNDUP: La Roux / Tourist / Route 94 + Henry Krinkle

tropicalchanceur

With this weekend marking the official start to summer, this edition of RMX Roundup begins with something tropical by way of crowd favorite and dance/synthpop act La Roux. “Tropical Chanceur” is the third single shared off their forthcoming album, Trouble In Paradise, whose breezy synths and steel drums will have you beach bound in no time. Listen below and look out for the album to drop July 8 via Cherrytree Records. Next we have another track from Tourist, the British producer whose electronic beats we just can’t seem to get enough of lately. See if you agree by streaming below, and be sure to pick up his new EP Patterns on iTunes. Last but not least is the thrilling new remix of Route 94‘s house track “My Love,” by the Shanghai-based maestro of sexy electronic grooves Henry Krinkle. He describes his sound as originating “somewhere between the swamps and polo fields of South Florida.” Is there anything more to be said? Ready, set, SUMMER.
