SOFI TUKKER – Hey Lion

sofi_tukker

With only three tracks to their name, NYC indie dance duo SOFI TUKKER has already set the blogosphere ablaze with their bossa nova and house inspired sounds. Leading up to the release of their forthcoming EP Soft Animals, this week they dropped latest effort and EP opener “Hey Lion.”

Formed by Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern in 2014, SOFI TUKKER has established their aural presence in the animal kingdom through their entrancing South American and Afrobeat rhythms — sort of a cross between Francis BebeyGlass Animals and Jungle sonically, but with female vocals. According to singer Hawley-Weld, “‘Hey Lion’ is like the opening chant to Soft Animals. We want to welcome people into our version of this animal-world, where strength is soft and nobody is boss.”

Stay tuned for their EP, and check out their showcases at SXSW if you’re so lucky as to be going. Stream “Hey Lion” along with a rad ADDAL remix of previous dizzying hit and Portuguese-sung track “Drinkee.”

De Lux – I’ve Got To Make A Statement (No More Likes or Ums)

DeLux

Sean Guerin and Isaac Franco are multi-instrumentalists and founders of De Lux, a post-disco, dance-punk band based out of L.A. Behind the duo is the independent label Innovative Leisure (home to Classixx, Hanni El Khatib), who released their full-length album Voyage this April. De Lux’s sound is reminiscent of Talking Heads, with additions of tropical disco. Get your groove on to their track “I’ve Got To Make A Statement (No More Likes or Ums)” below.

RMX Roundup: Olympic Ayres / Foals vs Booka Shade / Sky Ferreira + Cid Rim

Sky Ferrieira Performs At Scala

For today’s installment of Remix Roundup, we have three completely different but individually stellar tracks in their own right. First off is Sydney duo Olympic Ayres, who dropped the upbeat electro-gem “Take Flight” a few weeks back. While not actually a remix, this electronic original will have you taking flight in no time, and is due out on their forthcoming EP Leisureplex later this year. Next up is the sexy mashup of Foals “My Number” over Booka Shade’s “Charlotte,” by fellow Australian artist RÜFÜS. Grab the free download here, and catch them at U Street Music Hall March 27 if you’re in DC. Last but not least is the latest from Austrian producer Cid Rim, an electric remix of Sky Ferreira’s “You’re Not The One” replete with arpeggios, shiny vocals over a choppy chorus, and a punchy bass line — the stuff good remixes are made of. Stream all three below.

Alesso – ‘If I Lose Myself’ Mix

alesso580

Alesso (born Alessandro Lindblad) is a DJ/EDM producer from Sweden. Achieving worldwide recognition with progressive house hit “Years” in 2011, the Swede recently dropped this anthemic remix of OneRepublic’s “If I Lose Myself.” With its catchy vocals, captivating synths and dramatic build-up, I find myself unable to stop from bursting into song whenever I hear it.

He also paired up with Dirty South last year to release explosive pop ballad “City of Dreams,” included in my best of list for 2012 —  it’s that good.

Alesso will be playing at DC’s Echostage April 19th. Although I have yet to experience this venue, given the amount of energy the Swedish producer packs into his music I’m sure it is to be an exhilarating show.
